FPC, also known as " flexible printed circuit board", is a printed circuit made of flexible insulating substrate. FPC has many advantages that a hard printed circuit board does not have. For example, it can be freely bent, turned, and folded, can be arranged arbitrarily according to the spatial layout requirements, and can be moved and expanded arbitrarily in the three-dimensional space so as to achieve the integration of component assembly and wire connection.

FPC flexible board can greatly reduce the volume of electronic products, which is suitable for the development of electronic products to high density, miniaturization, and high reliability. Therefore, FPC flexible board has been widely used in aerospace, military, mobile communication, laptop, computer peripherals, PDA, digital cameras, and other fields or products. FPC flexible board also has the advantages of good heat dissipation and weldability, easy installation and connection, low comprehensive cost, etc. The combination of FPC and rigid board also makes up for the slight deficiency of flexible substrate in the bearing capacity of components to some extent.

Flexible PCBs can be classified into the single-sided, double-sided, and multi-layer boards. The substrate used is a polyimide copper clad sheet. This kind of material has high heat resistance, good dimensional stability, and the covering film with both mechanical protection and good electrical insulation performance is made by pressing the final product. The surface and inner conductors of the double-sided and multi-layer printed circuit boards are metalized to realize the electrical connection of the inner and outer layers. The functions of FPC can be divided into four types, namely, lead Line, printed circuit, connector, and integration of function, which covers the use of computers, peripheral auxiliary systems, consumer electrical appliances, and automobiles.
